A Quick Recap: How Did We Get Here?

When Squid Game first hit Netflix on September 17, 2021, it took the world by storm. Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the show’s first season followed Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) as he navigated a deadly survival game with a massive cash prize at stake. The show became an instant global sensation, making history as one of the most-watched series of all time.

Gi-hun won the game, but it didn’t feel like a victory. After witnessing the brutal deaths of 455 other contestants, the weight of his choices left him questioning everything.

Season 2: The Game Isn’t Over Yet

Then came Season 2, which premiered on December 26, 2024. This time, Gi-hun re-enters the game but not as a player looking for money. He’s on a mission to take the game down for good.

However, things aren’t that simple. The mysterious Front Man who has gained Gi-hun’s trust might actually be standing in his way. By the end of the season, the games are still ongoing, and Gi-hun’s mission remains unfinished.

What’s Coming in Squid Game Season 3?

According to Lee Jung-jae, Season 3 will introduce brand-new games and shocking plot twists that are still under wraps. But one thing is certain the battle isn’t over, and Gi-hun’s fight to dismantle the game will be tougher than ever.

Bigger Budget, Bigger Stakes

Season 1 was made on a budget of $21.4 million, but Netflix has gone all-in for Seasons 2 and 3, spending a combined $68.9 million to take the franchise to the next level.

With higher stakes, thrilling new challenges, and more secrets to unravel, Squid Game Season 3 is set to be the biggest installment yet.

Mark your calendars June 27, 2025! The game is about to begin once again.
